1. Fernando VII changed the law because he wanted his daughter to be the next queen instead of his brother Carlos. The original law didn't allow women to rule Spain, only men could.

2. Carlos was Fernando's brother and he wanted to be the next king.

3. Isabel was supported by The Liberals.

4. Carlos was supported by The Carlists.

5. Carlists wanted Carlos to be the next king, they were conservatives, supported the absolute monarchy and a powerful Catholic Church. Liberals supported Isabel, the ideals of the French Revolution and the Constitution of Cádiz, they didn't want  a powerful Catholic Church.
